Inn-Salzach

As home country of the pope, the region between the two rivers Inn and Salzach offers a wide range of tourist attractions.

The region in-between the two rivers Inn and Salzach is just an hours drive away from Munich. It is a typical Upper Bavaria region, but far from mass tourism.
The region offers various leisure time activities: cycling, golf, visiting historical cities or just experiencing nature, whatever your heart desires.
The landscape is distinctively determined by the mountain rivers Inn and Salzach. You can still see the prosperity of earlier centuries in the skilfully decorated town-houses of the cities alongside the two rivers, reminiscent of Mediterranean architecture.
Altötting, place of pilgrimage, can be explored by guests and pilgrims “following the fottsteps of the popes”. Pope Benedikt XVI passed his childhood and youth at various places in the region, which are joined by a cycling path, that leads you through the most beautiful villages and sceneries of the regions Inn-Salzach, Chiemgau, Chiemsee and Rosenheim. Starting point for the 248 kilometres of the “Benediktweg” is the “pope`s lime tree” in Altötting, planted by Johannes Paul II in 1980.
